Gingo's coming to town? Not a drama, here's what to do...

When doing business, it's important to consider not only the language barrier but also cultural differences.
Business etiquette is an essential part of conducting business, particularly when dealing with international clients or partners. If you are attending a dinner with a client, it is important to consider the following key aspects of business etiquette.
To ensure a successful and respectful meeting, it's important to follow proper business etiquette.
This is especially important when hosting guests from other countries, such as American bankers coming to Mexico.
Which is a the exact scenario a recent client was in, here's what I told them:
5 tips to help you navigate business etiquette when hosting American bankers in Mexico:
Dress Code - Dress professionally and conservatively for the occasion.
You should wear what you wear to the office or higher.
Men should avoid trainers and jeans instead a full suit and tie or simply a shoe, trouser, shirt and optional jumper (sweater) combo if the situation allows, while women should wear a smart dress or a suit.

Greetings - When meeting the Americans or any other client shake hands, introduce yourself and your boss if he's present. Use their full name with a "Mr." or "Ms." title, and wait for them to offer a first-name basis before using it if you are not familiar with each other already.

Conversation - Depending on your relationship with the client, you may want to consider avoiding sensitive topics such as politics and religion. (People are rather touchy these days.)
To play it safe, stick to discussing business, sports and non-controversial topics. Be respectful and courteous in your communication, and avoid interrupting the speakers.

Dining - If you are hosting a dinner at a restaurant be sure to visit ahead of time so you are familiar with the staff and location. Also be mindful of dietary restrictions and serve food that accommodates them.
You may, if it is a very formal meeting, lay out place cards to indicate seating arrangements, and the host should be seated to the right of the most senior guest.
Table manners should be observed, including using utensils correctly and not talking with your mouth full.

Gift Giving - It is not expected to give gifts in a business setting in Mexico, but if you choose to do so, give a gift that represents your culture or country.
If the Americans bring gifts, be sure to thank them politely.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure a smooth and respectful business meeting with any client.
Remember, good manners and etiquette go a long way in building successful business relationships.
